In the midst of their rocky 2025 season debut, the Colorado Rockies are making some changes.
Hensley Meulens, the hitting coach, was removed of his duties, the team announced Thursday afternoon. For the rest of the season, Clint Hurdle, the general manager’s special assistant, will assume responsibility.
With a 3-15 start to the 2025 season, the Rockies have the worst record in baseball through the first month or so of the season. They have a league-worst -51 run differential after scoring a league-low 52 runs and giving up a league-high 103.
The final straw for Meulens was Thursday night’s 8-7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, even though it was their highest-scoring game in more than ten days. He will now be replaced by Hurdle, a longtime Rockies coach and manager from 2002 to 2009.

After taking Thursday off, Colorado will be back on the diamond on Friday night when they host the Washington Nationals at Coors Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. EST.
