The potential pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians has both positive and negative outcomes.

The squad lost to the New York Yankees on Wednesday because Luis L. Ortiz didn’t have his finest game.

For the first time in 55 years, the Guardians had a chance to sweep the Bronx Bombers in three games, but the 26-year-old Dominican was a bit off.

The Yankees kept him on the mound by hitting fouls and making him throw a lot of pitches, which finally interfered with his command, according to manager Stephen Vogt, who was questioned about his performance:

“Louie’s command was a little off today. The Yankees made him throw a lot of pitches. The fouled off a lot of pitching this whole series, which leads to pitch counts going up,” Vogt said. “But there were walks as well. It just wasn’t the best version of Louie today.”

In the defeat, Ortiz gave up four earned runs on five hits and five walks.

He reached a career-high 104 pitches, although he was only able to remain there for 4.1 innings.

Positively, he did manage to strike out eight batters.

After that performance, he had a dismal 5.96 ERA in five outings (all starts) with a 2-3 season record.

He has 31 strikeouts in 25.2 innings, but he also has issued 14 walks and has a 1.558 WHIP.

Throughout the season, Ortiz has struggled with command, averaging 4.9 walks per nine innings.

Even though it’s not always pretty, the team is doing the right thing by taking it slow with him and letting him learn from his mistakes. It’s obvious that he has a lot of talent and potential.

The Guardians, who are now 14-10 on the season, will host the Boston Red Sox for a three-game series.
