Although their key players, Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso, have been able to hide some of their shortcomings, the New York Mets, who are 18-7 so far this season, might not allow that to continue for long.

The Mets may need to trade for a center field improvement, but they will ultimately have reinforcements returning from injuries in the starting rotation. Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri have had a rough start to the season, and Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report said that the Mets would be the best place to trade for Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox.

“FanGraphs has both Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri down for both negative offense and negative defense during their time spent in CF this season, combining for negative-0.4 fWAR,” Miller stated. Although Baseball Reference is a little more upbeat at negative-0.1 bWAR, it is still evident that the current situation is not ideal. Adding Robert to the mix could be the final piece of the puzzle this year, and they may well want to bring him back again next year on that club option.”

Robert has club options for 2026 and 2027 in addition to the $50 million, six-year agreement he signed in 2020. Robert will be a popular name this summer, and the White Sox are expected to sell around the trade deadline. Even Robert was shocked that he was able to attend the White Sox’s opening day.

“Honestly, no,” Robert told Chris Emma of 670 The Score when he was asked if he anticipated being on the White Sox roster on opening day. “I am aware that there were several rumors circulating there. I didn’t anticipate being here.

MLB teams cautiously approaching trade for Chicago White Sox star Luis Robert Jr.

Playing for a side that has winning goals should help Robert, who is having a difficult start to the season. Robert is capable of hitting 40 home runs and is an All-Star when he is at his peak. In 2023, he made his only appearance as an All-Star. He also had a difficult opening 30 games that season.
