In college basketball, a former 4-star prospect has picked his next destination. After two lackluster seasons in New York, former Syracuse guard Chance Westry decided to use the transfer portal last month. Matt Zenitz claims that he has committed to UAB and will be going back to Alabama.

Westry, a 4-star prospect straight out of high school from Chandler, Arizona, was listed as the No. 12 SF in the 2022 recruiting class. As a freshman, he signed with Auburn basketball after ranking third among Arizona’s players.

Despite being highly anticipated before his collegiate career began, he only played in 11 of the Tigers’ games in 2022–2023 due to a preseason knee injury. Westry decided to use the transfer portal for the first time following a dismal season on the Plains, and he ended up at Syracuse.

Due to an injury to the opposite knee from the one he hurt as a freshman at Auburn, he missed the whole 2023–24 season. Despite having an unexplained sickness during the preseason, he worked with the club over the summer. He didn’t play again for the remainder of the season after missing the first six games and playing ten minutes in the following three games. He wasn’t on the team’s itinerary and was marked as “unavailable due to medical reasons.”

At Birmingham’s University of Alabama, Westry will now attempt to play again.
