It’s been all smiles for the New York Mets and their supporters to begin this season. The Mets presently lead the second-place Philadelphia Phillies by five games and have won an MLB-best 19 games. New York has had the greatest pitching staff in the Major Leagues, which has been a major factor in their success.
The Mets have struggled with a long list of injuries to start the season, despite their success. Regretfully, it appears that a vital member of their bullpen will have to be placed on the disabled list. Veteran southpaw A.J. Minter entered the game late on Saturday but exited with what was subsequently reported to be a triceps injury (via SNY Mets).
Carlos Mendoza, the captain of the Mets, talked about the injury with media following Saturday’s game (via SNY).
Mendoza stated, “I don’t want to get ahead of myself; we have to wait and see what we’re dealing with here.” Minter also met with reporters and shared the regrettable news that he is probably going to the injured list. “When you have a pitcher coming out of the game because of an arm, even if we get good news, you have to be careful,” Mendoza said.
This season, Minter has been a valuable addition to the Mets. Minter inked a $11 million one-year contract with New York after spending his first eight seasons with the division foe Atlanta Braves.
Minter has tossed 10.2 innings this season with a 1.69 ERA. He has a 0.938 WHIP and has not yet given up a home run. After a brief spell on injured leave, the Mets are optimistic the veteran lefty can return with ease.
