The Cleveland Guardians’ bullpen has had its fair share of ailments in the 2025 campaign.

Trevor Stephan, Franco Aleman, Erik Sabrowski, Sam Hentges, Andrew Walters, Nic Enright, and others are not on the unit at the moment.

One of their most well-known offseason additions, Paul Sewald, appears to be sidelined for some time as well.

“Paul Sewald exited with right shoulder inflammation,” team insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

The right-hander threw a fastball on Monday night and was plainly not feeling right after delivering it. Then, a few seconds later, he walked off the field and departed with a trainer.

Up until then, he had been out twice.

Stebbins acknowledged late at night that he was experiencing right shoulder discomfort.

In order to provide a more precise diagnosis and a return schedule, Sewald is anticipated to undergo a battery of tests and imaging.

Sewald may have to spend some time on the injured list, depending on the results of the scans and his condition.

Shoulder injuries are certainly not insignificant, but there is a wide range of outcomes here.

For instance, Emmanuel Clase returned to the mound after a few days after experiencing shoulder pain.

In Sewald’s instance, the Guardians are unable to do anything except wait.

The veteran had displayed glimmers of his current genius since joining Cleveland’s bullpen in the winter.

However, his 6.17 ERA indicates that he has been erratic up until this point.

In 2025, he helped the Guardians win some games but also cost them a few.

He will most likely be absent for a few days at the very least.
