Sunderland youngster eager to make a huge impact following unexpected loan move to Hibernian.
Eliezer Mayenda says he ‘loves’ Sunderland as a football club and a city, but he’s glad to be joining Hibernian for the rest of the season.
Mayenda is regarded as a top prospect at the Stadium of Light, and he has impressed in his limited time on the pitch.
Hibs will, however, offer him the opportunity to play regular minutes, which he is eager to accept.
“I’m happy to be here,” Mayenda told the official Hibernian website. “Hibernian is a terrific team, and I am extremely pleased.
“I had other possibilities, but this team was the perfect fit for me because we have a great squad, I’m young, and I can grow here.
“I just want to play games.” I enjoy football, and the most important thing is to help the team. I need to play, and here is a great opportunity for me to do so with this incredible club.
“This morning was good. We have a good team and players here, and the folks are awesome. Training went well, and I’m excited for the rest of the season.”
“I felt well at Sunderland; they are a good, large team. I had a lot of pals there, and the guys were fantastic.
“The Championship was unique, and it was a challenging league. I was content there, but I’m young, so I need and desire to play. I adore Sunderland; it’s a terrific team, a good place, and I felt great.”
“I believe my natural position is as a striker. I feel great playing as a number 9, but I can also play left or right wing. The gaffer will make the decision, but the most essential thing is to aid the team.
“I am a good player. I’m quick, I enjoy dribbling, I like scoring goals, and I’m strong and intelligent.”
Mayenda will at least know someone at Hibernian right away, since Sunderland teammate Nectarios Triantis has also moved on loan to Easter Road.
“Nectar is my friend,” Mayenda explained. “We have a terrific friendship, and I’m glad for him because this is a great opportunity for him to play here as well. He’s a great defender, so I’m thrilled for him.
