Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is looking ahead to Sunday’s meeting against Sunderland at the Riverside Stadium.
Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick says Sunderland have a tremendously talented team and believes October’s reverse game will have no influence on this weekend’s meeting.

The Black Cats were defeated 4-0 at the Stadium of Light earlier this season, after Dan Neil was controversially sent off shortly before halftime. Sunderland are three points ahead of Middlesbrough heading into Sunday’s fixture, with both teams aiming for a play-off spot.

When asked about Sunderland and head coach Michael Beale, Carrick said: “Obviously, they have good players, a lot of younger players, and are a very talented team.” You can tell he’s come in and modified and changed a few things, as you would anticipate. I’ve watched a few of their games now; they had a great win last week and played quite well. We know exactly what we’re up against, so it’ll be a significant challenge.”

What Those in the Game Have Said About Michael Beale

Carrick said that the game is important since both clubs are aiming for a top-six finish. It’s important in terms of preparing us for the next few minutes and providing us a chance to get three points. If we can take three points away from them, they will look to do the same with us.

“Will that tell the complete tale of the season? No, it’s not going to be a make-or-break game for the rest of the season, but it will undoubtedly give us a boost if we can put in the proper effort and get the right outcome.”

Carrick also stated that full-back Alex Bangura (hamstring), winger Isaiah Jones (hamstring), striker Emmanuel Latte Lath (ankle), and goalkeeper Seny Dieng (thigh) are all out with injuries.
