The latest Premier League TV fixtures have been revealed, and Newcastle United fans will endure yet another late kick-off in the capital.
The Premier League has announced that Newcastle United’s match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge will take place on Monday, March 11 at 8pm, as part of a late batch of TV choices revealed on Monday. The encounter at Stamford Bridge will once again leave Newcastle United fans unable to return home on trains after the game.
Wor Flags protested these kick-off times with a display in the Gallowgate ahead of Saturday’s game with Luton Town, after recent games against Liverpool and Fulham were moved, making it impossible for fans to catch trains home – and their game at the end of the month against Arsenal suffered a similar fate. Along with examples of games that make it impossible for Newcastle fans to return home afterward, a short but basic banner read: ‘TV before fans’.
The group also issued a statement, describing the kick-off times as ‘disgusting’ and urging the FA, Premier League, and TV broadcasters to solve the concerns. However, it appears that those protests were unheard, as Newcastle United fans are once again forced to travel to and from the city for a nighttime kickoff. Sky Sports will broadcast that game.
Newcastle’s match versus West Ham at St James’ Park has also been switched to a television broadcast. That match will be played on Saturday, March 30 at 12:30pm, leaving Hammers fans very little time to travel from London on the morning of the game. TNT Sports will broadcast the game.
The recent picks have had no effect on Newcastle’s game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on March 16th, which will continue to be a customary 3pm kickoff. If Newcastle defeat Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup match at the end of February, that game could be rescheduled. The FA Cup Quarter-Finals are set to take place on the weekend of March 16, thus the game versus Palace will be rearranged if Eddie Howe’s side advances at Ewood Park.
Newcastle’s lone remaining game in March is against Wolves. That match will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, at 3 p.m.
