Dan Burn did not bask in glory after Newcastle United’s 4-4 draw with Luton Town.
Alan Shearer has admitted to making fun of Dan Burn just hours after his Newcastle United horror show.
The 6’7″ defender had one of his worst games in a Toon shirt against Luton Town. His tug on Chiedozie Ogbene at the hour mark resulted in a penalty for the Hatters, which Carlton Morris converted to put them ahead.
Moments later, Burn fumbled on the attack, allowing Elijah Adebayo to increase Luton’s advantage. The 31-year-old was hooked on Tino Livramento after the five-minute mayhem.
Newcastle appeared to be heading for an ugly defeat before battling to earn a thrilling 4–4 draw. An overarching sense of “what could have been” permeated St James’ Park as the Magpies failed to build on their victory over Aston Villa days earlier.
However, he received a lot of criticism after the match, obtaining the lowest score in our NewcastleWorld player ratings. However, the Blyth-born defender was forced to face the music while attending Shearer’s charity event for his foundation.
The Alan Shearer Foundation in Newcastle provides social care and services for challenged children. Showbiz stars such as Ed Sheeran, Gary Barlow, and Sam Fender have previously performed at this yearly event.
Burn came as a guest after Newcastle’s game against Luton and was greeted with a deadpan joke upon arrival. Shearer remarked on his The Rest Is Football podcast: “I did (make fun of Burn). I couldn’t resist. I said it was kind of Dan Burn to show up tonight, more than he did at 3 p.m. today.
“I mentioned that we’d all had them. He raised his hand and said, ‘Yeah, I had one (a mare) today’. He took it the correct way, and we all laughed.”
While the star-studded bash was going on, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards took over as a pundit on Match of the Day. The 35-year-old smiled as he explained how miserably Burn performed, maintaining he did his best not to bury him.
“We’ve all been there as players,” Richards explained. “You don’t want to dig him out, especially around the team, but he’s in all of the clips I’ve received! Let’s just say I looked after him.
