It wasn’t all bad news for Sunderland at Birmingham, as Michael Beale confirmed Jack Clarke was not injured.
Michael Beale verified that he did not sustain an injury at Birmingham, thus Jack Clarke will be able to continue papering over the Sunderland cracks.
Clarke scored his 15th goal of the season at St Andrews, but it appears he injured his foot in the process.
The physios treated the winger on the field shortly after, and he exited before halftime with his boot, apparently due to swelling.
Clarke had a rather poor second-half performance as Sunderland lost 2-1, but Beale insists there is no cause for alarm, despite the problem occurring at Huddersfield on Wednesday.
When asked after the game about Jack Clarke’s potential injury, Michael Beale said: “He was alright, he had a little strapping on it.
“He received a blow early in the game on Wednesday when we broke and the lad ran across him. We didn’t receive anything for it, but he took a knock and then caught it again when he scored the goal; he only felt it briefly at halftime.
“We asked him at half-time, we asked him when we were making the subs in the second half, he said he was fine but I don’t think there’s much of an issue there.”
However, Beale confirmed that Patrick Roberts and Elliot Embleton will both be missing for an extended period of time.
“We won’t see either of them for a while, unfortunately,” Beale explained. “With Paddy, it’s four or five weeks, and with Embo on the scan, we didn’t expect to see what we did.
“He’ll probably be the same amount of time as well which is disappointing for both.”
