Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin turned 27 on Tuesday.
Eight months after leaving Newcastle United, Allan Saint-Maximin demonstrated his connection to the club.

Although Newcastle sold Saint-Maximin to Al Ahli for £22 million last summer, the club remembered to wish the winger a happy birthday on social media.

The club’s official Instagram page shared a snapshot of Saint-Maximin celebrating at St James’ Park, with the caption: “Wishing you a very happy birthday, @st_maximin ❤️🎂.”

The 27-year-old replied with teary-eyed and love emojis, along with the message: “🥹🫶🏾 forever 🖤🤍.” From 2019 until 2023, the Frenchman appeared in 124 games for Newcastle, scoring 13 goals. Since joining Al Ahli, Saint-Maximin has been in good form in the Saudi Pro League, with four goals and nine assists in 22 games.

Al Ahli is presently third in the Saudi Pro League, six points behind Al Nassr in second and 18 behind runaway leaders Al Hilal.

Last summer, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) acquired all three clubs, as well as fourth-placed Al Ittihad. Following an October 2021 buyout, PIF now owns an 80% share in Newcastle.

Following his departure from Newcastle at the start of the season, Saint-Maximin sent an emotional message with fans on social media.

He wrote: “I fell for Newcastle, I had wonderful opportunity to leave during dark days, but it was too late; I was already in love. I wanted, needed, and had to stay to assist my squad save the club from Premier League relegation because it meant everything to me.

“Of course, during those terrible days, people may have had their doubts, but I always believed in this club, and look where we are now; it’s simply stunning.

“I’m leaving Newcastle as it should have always been, and that’s my most important prize because I was a part of it. A heartfelt thank you to everyone, including my teammates, faithful supporters, staff, and the club. I received all of your notes, and while this chapter has finished, the narrative continues.

“Now that Newcastle is home, I’ll continue to be your biggest supporter. I’ll watch every game and be the happiest man in the world if the club keeps winning.” I am confident you will see me again.

“I love you, truly, and as a Geordie brother. Once a Geordie, always a Geordie.
