Birmingham City’s manager hunt has been narrowed down to two contenders who could replace the recently fired Wayne Rooney.
WHAT OCCURED?
The Tom Brady-owned team let Rooney go after only 13 weeks due to a string of dismal results that saw the club gather only 10 points in the Championship from a possible 45. Birmingham City were in the play-offs when Rooney took over, but by the time he left, they had dropped to 20th place, six points above the relegation zone.

According to the Mirror, the Blues have produced a shortlist of two managers to take over for the former Manchester United great. Former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray, who left the club in December, and ex-Stoke City manager Gary Rowett have been shortlisted for the job.
WHAT DID YOU KNOW?
After departing the club on Tuesday, the 38-year-old former England star agreed that the team’s performance had plummeted under his leadership, but he also claimed that 13 weeks was insufficient time to effect major change.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT FOR BIRMINGHAM CITY?
After beginning the new year with a 3-0 loss to Leeds United in the Championship, Birmingham City will now turn their attention to the FA Cup, where they will face Hull City in the third round on Saturday.
