Kyle Pitts

When the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins, Kyle Pitts turned to Twitter to instantly address the most significant decision of the transaction.

Who will wear number 8 in Atlanta?

Pitts even tweeted a photo of himself in #84, which he wore in college for the Florida Gators. When Pitts arrived with the Falcons, Cordarrelle Patterson already wore #84, so Pitts chose #8, which Kirk Cousins had worn for the most of his career. However, it doesn’t appear like they’ll be much of a fight about the number this offseason.

Cousins has already approached Pitts about wearing it, offering to donate money to his preferred nonprofit, but Pitts had a different kind of reward in mind.

“I just want targets every game,” Pitts explained.

Cousins replied, “Good answer.”

It’s interesting to see that Kirk Cousins and Kyle Pitts are already developing a relationship, especially since the latter is about to embark on the most important season of his career.

Following a remarkable rookie season, injuries and uneven quarterback play have stopped Pitts from fulfilling the promise he had coming out of college. The hope is that Cousins will help lift the entire skill position group, which includes three top ten picks from the last three drafts, and no one stands to benefit more this season than Kyle Pitts, who will look to sign a contract extension with the Falcons next offseason if they pick up his fifth-year option.

Cousins may be criticized for his lack of postseason success, but there is no denying that he knows how to get the ball to his receivers. A slew of pass catchers have had breakout seasons under the new Falcons quarterback, and the hope is that Pitts will look a lot more like the player he was in his first season now that there is some consistency under center.
