L’Jarius Sneed will leave the Kansas City Chiefs after four seasons, with the cornerback having been a crucial component in the team’s recent success.
Patrick Mahomes made a last-ditch effort to keep L’Jarius Sneed on the Kansas City Chiefs roster for the next NFL season. However, his teammate was traded only hours later.
The two players had previously played together at Arrowhead Stadium and won back-to-back Super Bowl championships in 2022 and 2023. They had developed a deep friendship throughout their four seasons together in Missouri.
However, Sneed is reportedly expected to sign a hefty £57 million ($76 million) contract with the Tennessee Titans, with £41 million ($55 million) guaranteed. This contract will place him among the highest-paid players in NFL history. The cornerback is slated to earn £14 million ($19 million) over a four-year period.
As he begins this new phase, his former team will receive a third-round pick in 2025 and a seventh-round pick in 2024. Sneed has become an important member of Andy Reid’s team after getting drafted in 2020. It’s evident that some of his colleagues, including Mahomes, wished he would stay with the Chiefs.
During an interview with Fox4KC, Mahomes expressed a desire for his teammate to remain in Kansas City for the 2024 season. He replied, “I don’t have any say in it. “I believe you will hear from everyone on our team that we want Sneed.”
He went on to describe the type of player and person Sneed is, saying, “The player he is, that person he is.” “He’s one of those guys who’s hungry every day.” He also provided some insight into Sneed’s personality, stating: “He’s not going to be the most vocal guy, not always yelling and screaming.”

The Chiefs superstar revealed more about Sneed. He stated, “But the mindset he has and the determination with which he practices is evident every day. He leads those guys. We want everyone to receive their money. So, whatever happens, we’ll be thrilled for him. But hopefully, that will be with the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Talk of Sneed’s departure came after the two-time Super Bowl winner made an appeal to Chiefs general manager Bret Veach. As free agency neared, he hoped to sign a new contract with KC. But he seems concerned that finalizing agreements for both himself and defensive lineman Chris Jones might be too much.
Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ incredible Super Bowl victory in Las Vegas, the star athlete spoke on “Up and Adams” and provided a candid update on his future. He said, “I hope I’m here, but you never know what happens. I hope I am here.”
“You know, I’m just going to do what I do, play ball, and go wherever I want, and they’ll get my best. I hope so. They cannot keep both of us. I don’t think they have enough for the both of us. But you know they’ll make it happen, I hope.
