Newcastle United has learnt how much it will cost to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon this summer.
Gyokerese has been in amazing form for the Portuguese club, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and Newcastle do not want to lose out on the brilliant striker.
Although it was previously believed that anyone wanted him would have to pay the £85 million release clause, a fresh report from Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the price has been reduced.
Newcastle given huge boost in Gyokeres pursuit
Newcastle are in the market for a new striker, with Callum Wilson poised to leave the club in the next transfer window if he can be sold for a decent price.
However, their budget would not have allowed them to invest £85 million on one player when Eddie Howe wants to enhance other areas this summer.
So the news that Gyokeres’ price has been reduced will be welcomed by Newcastle, and it is believed that Sporting will be willing to negotiate a deal for roughly £43 million.
The 25-year-old has 36 goals and 14 assists this season, following his move from Coventry.
This price will undoubtedly attract additional prospective bidders for the striker, but Newcastle will be confident in their ability to make a compelling case for bringing him to Tyneside.
Newcastle want Swedish duo to lead the attack
While Gyokeres has been flourishing in Portugal, his Swedish teammate Alexander Isak has become as one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League over the last two seasons.
Despite playing as lone strikers for their respective clubs, the pair frequently appear together for the national team, and Newcastle may explore this in the future.
After all, neither Gyokeres nor Isak would be content being the other’s backup, so playing them together might be the best option for Newcastle.
Bringing both Swedish internationals to Newcastle would be a big coup for the club, forming one of Europe’s most dangerous assaults alongside Anthony Gordon, who is also in excellent form.
