One Charlton player has sent a clear message to the club regarding his future since arriving at The Valley last month.
It may feel like a long two weeks without League One action for Charlton Athletic fans, who have been enjoying a rejuvenated Addicks side under Nathan Jones in recent weeks.
However, Charlton fans can look forward to two games in four days as the season returns, with the club hoping to keep distance from the relegation zone.
Charlton sent contract message
Thierry Small, a Charlton Athletic defender, did not mince words when discussing his football future. The 19-year-old signed a short-term contract with the Addicks at the beginning of February and is due to become a free agency at the end of the season.
Charlton confirmed the deal in February, with the club holding the option to extend it for another year if Small performs well at the Valley. Small told London News Online about his future plans and expressed hope that his stay at the League One club would be extended.
He stated, “I’m here for everything. If it is what the club wants to accomplish, I would not turn it down.
“My current goal is to play as many games as possible for Charlton and to help the team end the season strongly. We’re having a good little run. Hopefully, we can retain this form going into the new season.”
The Solihull-born full-back progressed through the West Brom and Everton academies before becoming the Toffees’ youngest-ever player when he made his FA Cup debut under Carlo Ancelotti in 2021. Small has made seven appearances for the Addicks since arriving and, as a teenager, is a promising prospect for the team.
Portsmouth youngster set for summer exit
Portsmouth defender Liam Vincent is poised to leave Fratton Park as a free agent this summer, having never made a professional appearance for the club.
The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Tonbridge Angels in the National League, and his stay has been extended until the end of the season after impressing at the Longmead Stadium. His adaptability has proven crucial to the team, and Portsmouth agreed a request for an extension.
According to The News, the 2021 signing from Bromley will depart Portsmouth when his contract expires this summer without paying for the first team. Portsmouth beat off Championship and Premier League clubs to sign the bright teenager three years ago.
Vincent is anticipated to be one of 11 Portsmouth youngsters released by the promotion-chasing club at the end of the League One season.
