An “exceptional” player who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United is now willing to join the Magpies during the summer transfer window, perhaps replacing a guaranteed starter in Eddie Howe’s side.

Howe will already be considering which players he can bring in at the end of the season, with PIF expected to provide him with funds for new signings despite the need to tread carefully around Financial Fair Play – CEO Darren Eales has previously admitted that they may need to sell a star player before they can buy.
Many players have been linked with Newcastle in recent days, with centre-back appearing to be the main target, following long-term injuries to both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lacelles that will keep them out for the majority, if not all, of 2024.
Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi is reportedly coveted by a number of big Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United. This summer could feel like a natural time for him to leave Selhurst Park, as he wants to step up his game and boost his prospects of becoming a regular for his country.
VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nubel is also regarded as a possible target for Newcastle in the forthcoming transfer window, as Howe seeks to create competition for Nick Pope. Similarly, Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale, who has been replaced by David Raya this season, is an option.
“Exceptional” ace keen on Newcastle move
According to a recent update from Give Me Sport, Ramsdale is considering a move to Newcastle this summer as he seeks a new challenge.
According to the source, the 25-year-old is “‘open-minded’ about the prospect of joining the St. James’ Park outfit during the 2024 summer window”, and that “Nick Pope’s role at Newcastle is not as safe as most would imagine, even when fit”.
Ramsdale’s value has slipped this season after being such an important player for Arsenal last year, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable option for Newcastle, especially given his youth.
He is also perhaps more of a ball-playing goalkeeper than Pope, proving to be more natural in possession, and he has been praised by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. “He’s been great around the facility given the circumstances. Just like everyone else. We definitely adore him more now. We see him every day. We know him, we know his personality, and we are quite pleased to have him.
“I don’t think I’m the right person to answer the question concerning Aaron Ramsdale’s quality because I was the one who signed him while everyone else was doubting the decision. So I don’t think I’m the one to answer that question.”
It would be surprising if Ramsdale was content to continue at Arsenal as a backup, and Newcastle appears to be an excellent alternative for him, keeping him at a big club while also reconnecting him with Howe, whom he admires after working with at Bournemouth previously.
