Six players set to leave Newcastle United

When the summer transfer window opens, Newcastle United will have to make many big decisions.
Newcastle United are still in talks with Joelinton about a new contract, despite the Brazilian having entered the final 18 months of his current term. The Magpies are eager to tie him down to a new contract at St James’ Park, and they are in the process of negotiating one, with the intention of reaching an agreement shortly.

According to the Telegraph, work has been made on a new contract for the Brazilian, and the club is ‘near’ to concluding it. If Joelinton enters the summer transfer window without signing a new contract, the club may be forced to sell him; otherwise, they risk losing him on a free transfer next summer or in January, when he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs. When asked lately about potential progress in negotiations between the club and the player, Eddie Howe responded, “We’re as we were.”

Joelinton isn’t the only senior player with less than 18 months left on his current contract; Callum Wilson is one of the more well-known players who have entered the final year and a bit of their current contracts.

Wilson, who has not played since suffering a pectoral injury in a win against Nottingham Forest in February, was linked with a move away from the club in January, with Atletico Madrid and AC Milan apparently interested in signing him. Kieran Trippier, whose future was also called into question during the winter transfer window due to ties to Bayern Munich, is another player with just over a year remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park.
