Wolves were defeated by Bournemouth in the Premier League today, and the Molineux crowd erupted in the second half as yet another VAR decision went against them.

Gary O’Neil’s side performed poorly against the Cherries, which was particularly surprising given that numerous key players had returned to the squad.

The Wolves were outplayed and outfought throughout the game, and they never looked comfortable.

Antoine Semenyo put Bournemouth ahead midway through the first half, capitalizing on Max Kilman’s clumsy clearing.

Androni Iraola’s team could have been out of sight if not for Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. The Portuguese stopper really saved Wolves’ blushes.

As expected, there was a controversial moment in the second-half when Hwang Hee-chan’s header was chalked off by referee Stuart Attwell after VAR instructed him to check the monitor.

What Wolves fans chanted at Molineux during tonight’s game with Bournemouth, after more VAR controversy

Hwang thought he had scored his first goal of 2024 after Nelson Semedo sent in a fantastic ball from the right side.

There looked to be nothing happening at first, but Wanderers fans soon noticed that the goal was being checked.

During the buildup, Matheus Cunha grabbed Justin Kluivert’s flailing arm. Nothing was said about it at the time, and no Bournemouth players appealed either during or after Hwang’s header.

Attwell went to the monitor to review the event, and sure enough, the foul was called and the goal was ruled off. Cunha was also charged for his actions.

According to journalist Steve Madeley, Wolves fans chanted ‘It’s not football anymore’ tonight. There were also some chants directed at the Premier League.

Another embarrassing decision, but Wolves poor

It’s beyond imagination how many decisions have harmed the Wolves this season. This latest one was exceedingly soft and not a clear and evident error, with Kluivert barely hampered at all. This will occur in another game tomorrow night or over the weekend, and it will just be overlooked.

But that seems to be the case with Wolves, and O’Neil will undoubtedly have a lot to say about the situation following the game.

But, to be honest, the Wolves played poorly for the majority of tonight’s game. They didn’t really start pushing and playing until Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez was sent off.

It was one of the poorest performances under O’Neil so far. So many players did not show up for the home team, and a strong response is required in the following game.
