Dan Burn, a Newcastle United defender, hopes of winning a title with his childhood club.
Dan Burn has confirmed that Newcastle United intend to win a trophy above everything else next season.

The Magpies are one of English football’s greatest underachievers over the last half-century. Several decades have gone since Newcastle won their last domestic trophy, the FA Cup, in 1955.

Eddie Howe nearly broke the club’s drought last season, bringing them to their first Wembley final in 24 years. Manchester United won the Carabao Cup 2-0, but co-owner Amanda Staveley vowed brighter days ahead at the end.

“We will win the Carabao Cup,” she declared. “We’ll win the FA Cup. We’ll win the Champions League. We’ll win the Premier League.

“This is all about the fantastic fans that have led us on this incredible journey. We are really honored and humbled. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to run Newcastle.”

Newcastle stalwart Burn has revealed that overcoming the trophy drought is a primary aim for next season. As a Geordie, the 31-year-old is well aware of the failings at St James’ Park in recent decades, and he has set a challenge for his Newcastle colleagues.

“You’ve got to show that you’re still ambitious,” Burn told The Athletic. “It was simple to show last season, with all the excitement.

“The best teams can do it season after season, therefore we need to be able to do it as well. I still believe we can complete the season on a positive note. The challenge for next year is that we must go again. We have to win something.

“We have to win the trophy for me. Obviously, that’s just my opinion, but I believe that with the group we have and the momentum we have as a club, that should be our goal, to win silverware.”
