The Ohio State Buckeyes want to strengthen their defensive line for the upcoming season and have looked to Michigan State transfer Derrick Harmon.
If you’re experiencing Deja Vù, you’re not crazy.
Back in December, the Buckeyes were hoping to sign Harmon until he pulled himself from the transfer portal and decided to stay with the Spartans… temporarily.
On December 12, Harmon visited Ohio State, Oregon, and Auburn before electing to stay in East Lansing. Harmon is now back in the portal, and the Buckeyes have another chance at him.
Last season, Harmon had 40 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and 1.5 sacks for a 4-8 Michigan State team that failed to make the bowl game.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Colorado and USC are the leading possibilities to sign Harmon, who was an All-Big Ten player last season, but the Buckeyes are still vying for him.
“Sources have indicated to On3’s Steve Wiltfong and I that five teams are in consideration this time: Colorado, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC,” he wrote. “The Buffaloes and Trojans have received visits since Harmon entered the gateway over a week ago. He was planned to visit Miami earlier this week, but the trip was postponed.
Over three seasons with the Spartans, the 6-5, 320-pounder has made 71 total stops, including 6.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks. Harmon has two passes defended, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble in 24 career games.
The Buckeyes presently have a solid defensive front, with Tyliek Williams and Ty Hamilton at defensive tackle.
The arrival of Harmon, however, has the potential to dramatically elevate Ohio State’s defensive line.
