Jasson Dominguez, the Yankees’ outfielder, is making steady progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

The former #1 overall prospect in baseball returned to the outfield for the first time during his recuperation earlier this week, and he’s been falling into a nice little routine while he works on his timing at the plate.

“I feel really good,” Dominguez told reporters on Friday. “My arm feels great right now. The progression has been excellent. We’re just taking it day by day, and each day I feel a little better.”

Dominguez extended his Double-A hitting streak to eight games with a mammoth two-run bomb to deep left field on Friday night, and he’s now hitting.348 with a.977 OPS in 12 rehab games.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone seemed pleased with how the young star outfielder is developing on his journey to rehabilitation.

“He’s in a good spot,” the major league manager remarked. “He had a pretty fantastic rehab in the sense that it went well, he wasn’t rushed, and he was properly built up. So he’s in a good spot right now.

Dominguez’s 20-day assignment is slated to expire at the beginning of this week, and while he appears to be ready and has been performing well recently, he is unlikely to return to the big league team at this time.

With Aaron Judge, Alex Verdugo, and Juan Soto locked into the starting three outfield positions, and Trent Grisham holding down the fourth outfield place, there is just no room for the kid.

While Dominguez would like to return to the show as soon as possible, he recognizes that the issue is beyond his control.

“I can’t control that,” he added. “It is what it is, I’m just playing and continuing to make my progression each day and when the time comes we’ll see what happens.”
