J.D. Davis will cost the New York Yankees only $389,892 for the remainder of the season, a prorated share of the $740,000 major league minimum.

As a result of Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton’s injuries, New York acquired the infielder from Oakland on Sunday in exchange for minor league infielder Jordan Groshans. The Athletics agreed to pay the Yankees $927,312 on October 11.

Davis was owed $1,317,204 for the final 98 days of the season under his $2.5 million, one-year contract.

New York sought reinforcements after first baseman Anthony Rizzo injured his forearm and Giancarlo Stanton strained his hamstring.

Davis batted.232 with four homers and five RBIs in 135 plate appearances for the A’s, who signed him in mid-March and designated him on June 18.

Davis, 31, defeated San Francisco in arbitration this winter and was awarded a $6.9 million salary as part of a non-guaranteed deal, before being released by the Giants and receiving $1,112,903 in termination compensation.

This year, he is hitting.265 versus left-handed pitchers and.225 against righties. Davis is likely to spend more time at first base than third, and he can potentially be a designated hitter.

Rizzo injured his right forearm on June 16 and is expected to be out until August. The Yankees’ regular designated hitter, Stanton, hurt his left hamstring on Saturday.
