Despite a few recent setbacks, Juan Soto and the New York Yankees have dominated the competition this season. New York’s all-in gamble to sign Soto in December is paying off handsomely for a first-place Yankees team, but he is only under contract for the remainder of the season.
While MLB regulations allow for in-season contract negotiations, the superstar slugger has no plans to do so as he prepares to enter the free agent market for the first time.
With the Yankees presently competing against their cross-town rivals in the Subway Series at Citi Field, Soto was questioned if he would ever sign with the New York Mets, who have one of baseball’s greatest payrolls. When asked, Soto didn’t completely dismiss the concept.
As he stated, Soto wants to let his agency handle his contract negotiations, but based on his statements, the three-time All-Star has no choice between staying with the Yankees or joining the other New York team that wears pinstripes.
While he may not know which team he will play for next season, we do know that he will sign one of the most lucrative contracts in MLB history.
