All-star shortstop. Tim Anderson’s stay with the Miami Marlins is coming to an end, as the team designated him for assignment on Tuesday.
In a matching move, the Marlins promoted youngster Xavier Edwards from Triple-A club Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. This season, Edwards batted.330 in the minors, with one home run and six RBI.

“It’s never an easy day when you have to DFA one of your everyday players,” Marlins manager Skip Schumaker told reporters. “Tim was great in the clubhouse. I didn’t know him until this year, and he was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met.”

Anderson became a free agent last winter after the Chicago White Sox turned down a $14 million club option on his contract. He remained on the free-agent market longer than expected before signing a one-year, $5 million contract with the Marlins in February.

Both sides expected the former American League batting champion to have a rebound season in Miami. However, that never happened. Anderson struggled in 65 games with the Marlins, hitting.214 with no home runs and only nine RBIs.

Anderson had spent his entire eight-year MLB career with the White Sox. During his career in Chicago, he was named to two All-Star teams and received the Silver Slugger Award in 2020.
