Former Pittsburgh point guard Carlton Carrington has signed his rookie scale contract with the Wizards, according to NBA.com’s transaction record.

Last season, the 6’4″ guard averaged 13.8 points per game on a.412/.322/.785 shooting line at Pitt. He also recorded 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.

The Wizards selected him with the 14th overall pick after acquiring it from the Trail Blazers in the Deni Avdija deal.

In that trade, the Wizards acquired Carrington’s draft rights, a 2029 first-round pick, two second-round picks, and former Sixth Man of the Year guard Malcolm Brogdon’s expiring $22.5MM contract. Perhaps Brogdon can now act as a stabilizing veteran mentor for Carrington.

Washington, coming off a disappointing 2023/24 season, was highly involved in the draft, selecting three first-round players. Last month, the Wizards selected former NBL big man Alex Sarr with the second overall choice in the draft, followed by ex-Miami freshman catch-and-shoot specialist swingman Kyshawn George at number 24. Sarr and George had previously signed rookie-scale deals.

If Carrington signs for 120% of his rookie-scale pay (the maximum permissible amount), his four-year contract with the organization will be worth $21,290,769 (with $4.45 million allotted to his rookie season).
