The Reds reinstated infielder Edwin RÃos on a minor league contract. He was assigned to Triple-A Louisville and will start tonight’s game. RÃos chose free agency on Monday after being designated for assignment.
He will once again give a non-roster bat from the left side. RÃos signed a minor league contract over the winter and has spent the majority of the year at Louisville. Over 50 games with the Bats, he has a.243/.340/.486 hitting line with 11 home runs and a strong 11.8% walk rate, but he also strikes out over 29% of the time. The Reds gave him a quick look while Jake Fraley was unavailable. RÃos appeared in five games and was 1-9 with a walk.
RÃos, who has a lifetime batting line of.202/.290/.455, is mostly a corner infielder in the MLB. He possesses a lot of power — 21 home runs in 335 MLB plate appearances — but he also has an alarming strikeout percentage. The 30-year-old has struck out in more over one-third of his major league plate appearances.
