Dennis Cirkin has had surgery to repair a hamstring issue that has kept him out since November.
Sunderland defender Dennis Cirkin says he’s determined to overcome his injury setback following successful hamstring surgery.
The club revealed that the full-back, who hasn’t played since November, will be out for at least 12 weeks when he begins his rehabilitation program at the Academy of Light this month.
Cirkin had many injuries throughout his 28 Championship matches last season and has only appeared eight times this season.
Cirkin, 21, commented on Instagram after the club disclosed his surgery: “I wish I could come back on here to share some good news but unfortunately, the reality is the rocky road is enduring.”
“Despite my best efforts and concentration, I was unable to rejoin the team. As a result, I decided to get surgery. It was a success, and I just wanted to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this ordeal, as well as those who are assisting me in getting back to my best. “Having something you enjoy taken away from your daily life isn’t a pleasant feeling, but being in this position simply makes me more appreciative for where I am and motivated to succeed no matter what obstacles arise. “I’ll see you all soon.”
Cirkin, who joined Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, signed a new contract in June last year, extending his stay at the Stadium of Light until 2026.
