On Tuesday, the Twins made their first Deadline move, trading right-hander Trevor Richards to the Blue Jays in exchange for Minor League infielder Jay Harry from Toronto.

To create place for Richards on the 26-man roster, the Twins designated right-handed pitcher Josh Staumont for release or assignment.

Why Blue Jays pitcher Trevor Richards' changeup has been so successful

Richards began his career as a starter with the Marlins, although he has largely served as a reliever with Toronto from 2021 to 2024. He made 62 appearances in 2022, 56 the previous season, and 45 this year, demonstrating his durability. In portions of four seasons with the Blue Jays, he had a 4.75 ERA in 221 1/3 innings, 273 strikeouts.

The 31-year-old has largely been employed as a middle reliever capable of providing numerous innings and will fit into a Minnesota bullpen that has a 3.93 ERA, ranking middle of the pack.
