Shohei Ohtani is not the only MLB player creating history.

Elly De La Cruz, a Cincinnati Reds All-Star, has become the youngest player to hit at least 25 home runs and steal 65 bases in the same season.

The historic blast came from Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jared Jones. The three-run blast almost left Great American Ball Park.

However, De La Cruz has accomplished more than just that. The 22-year-old became the first player to have 100 extra-base hits and 100 stolen bases in the same season.

De La Cruz has lived up to the expectations when the Reds recruited him from the Dominican Republic in 2018. He tore through the minor leagues before making his MLB debut on June 6, 2023.

Is Elly De La Cruz's sophomore slump already behind him?

De La Cruz made his first All-Star appearance this year. He won’t become a free agent until 2030.

Injuries ruined what was expected to be a successful 2024 season for the Reds. De La Cruz and the Reds should contend for a playoff spot in 2025.
