The Los Angeles Dodgers have offered a significant update on Freddie Freeman three days before the National League Division Series.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Wednesday that Freeman has been swinging in the batting cage and will most likely face live pitching on Thursday or Friday. He is sure Freeman will start Game 1 of the NLDS, but admits the ankle ailment may be “limiting” both defensively and on the bases.
They’ll use the next three days to see what kind of effect he can have in the postseason.
Freeman hurt his ankle during last Thursday’s triumph over the San Diego Padres. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Freeman attempted to dodge Jake Cronenworth’s poor throw to first base. While trying to evade the tag, Freeman took an unusual step and turned his ankle. Here is a video of the play.

Freeman did not accompany the team to Colorado, but was sure he would return for Game 1 of the NLDS. As of now, all signs point to Freeman making it happen. However, the next two days will be critical for Freeman’s recovery.
Freeman appeared in 147 games this season, batting.282/.378/.476 with 22 home runs and 89 RBI.
