According to Darren Witcoop of the Sunday Mirror, Rotherham United are interested in signing Wigan Athletic attacker Callum Lang.

South Yorkshire are now 24th in the Championship and seeking for a spark in the second half of the season. Several clubs have expressed interest in Lang throughout this window.

Leam Richardson, the Millers’ manager, has previously worked with Wigan and is eager to bring the 25-year-old to the club. Rotherham United were defeated 1-0 by Stoke City yesterday, and they have only won one of their last five games.

The former Morecambe loanee has appeared 23 times for Wigan in League One this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists. The English forward has been at Wigan since 2016, but he has only scored once in his previous 36 Championship games.

Lang was left out of Wigan Athletic’s squad to face Northampton Town this weekend, with manager Shaun Maloney citing calf concerns.

According to Football Insider, both Derby and Portsmouth are preparing offers for Lang, with the Latics willing to let him leave during this window. Wigan is in need of revenue owing to recent financial woes and may be willing to cash in on the attacker to improve the situation.

The player’s preference is yet unknown. Rotherham will be fighting to stay in the Championship this season, while Pompey and the Rams have a chance to move up from League One. John Mousinho’s squad presently leads the table, with Paul Warne’s side in fourth place.

Rotherham have yet to make an official offer for the player, but the level of interest implies that one is on the way.

Author’s Opinion

Lang is a talented forward who will be missed by Wigan. Due to financial constraints at the club, the former Liverpool academy star may be forced to leave, and he will offer significant value to any team that signs him.

Rotherham are unlikely to stay in the Championship this season, and he may believe that a transfer to Portsmouth and the possibility of promotion is the most appealing option at the moment. Derby will also believe they have a chance to sign him, but if all three teams make an offer, the player will have the last say.
