Notre Dame confronts a difficult test against Georgia Tech as they contend with the loss of key defensive players.

Already this season, the Notre Dame football team has had to figure out how to win without a vital player on the field. The Irish will be missing Benjamin Morrison for their game against Georgia Tech, as well as the remainder of the season, but he isn’t the only defender who won’t play against the Wrambling Wreck.

Earlier this week, head coach Marcus Freeman revealed that another defense lineman would miss Saturday’s game. That’s an especially painful loss given that the Irish are already without Boubacar Troure.

Jason Onye, a lineman for Notre Dame football, will also be absent. Onye will miss his second game owing to personal reasons. Of course, Freeman hasn’t revealed any details about that personal problem.

Onye’s death is a significant loss. Despite little playing time this season, Onye has seven tackles and 1.5 sacks. What’s even more disheartening is that the lineman appeared to be coming into his own.

Onye recorded four total pressures and 1.5 sacks in Notre Dame’s annihilation of the Purdue Boilermakers this season. He added another pressure against Miami and three more against Louisville, totaling a season-high 24 snaps.

The good news is that the Notre Dame football team got another defensive lineman back last week, and he had an immediate impact. Gabriel Rubio demonstrated why the coaches were so pleased to have him back. Hopefully he can compensate for Onye’s absence.
