The Irish will be without a vital player when they face the Midshipmen.

The Notre Dame football team is preparing for one of its most important games of the season, but they will be missing one of their key players. Or, at the very least, it appears they will be without him.

The Irish are taking on the Navy Midshipmen, and it appears that this game will be close. If it comes down to one or two kicks, ND could be in trouble.

Earlier this week, Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman stated that kicker Mitch Jeter is still questionable to play against Navy.

Notre Dame football without kicker vs Navy

Notre Dame's Mitch Jeter named eighth-best kicker in college football

Jeter injured his right hip after a kickoff in the first half of the Stanford game and has not played since. In the last two games, junior Zac Yoakam has taken over extra points and field goals for Jeter. Yoakam has hit all nine of his PAT attempts in the last two games, including two in a blowout win over Purdue.

Jeter made five of his seven – goal attempts during the Notre Dame football season before being hurt, with both misses being blocked. He was 20 for 20 on extra points and averaged 63.3 yards per kickoff, with 18 touchbacks on 28 kicks.

While all of those statistics indicate that the Irish would not be worse off without Jeter, the difference between a big miss and a big make can mean the difference between a win and a loss. The Notre Dame football team would love to have a veteran that they expressly requested through the portal. It does not look like they will get their wish.
