The Los Angeles Dodgers want to re-sign All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández this offseason, but they are unable to reach an agreement right now.

If the two-time All-Star outfielder signs with another team, Los Angeles must consider other choices. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers are interested in two prospective trade targets from Chicago teams who may fill the vacuum left by Hernández’ absence.

Seiya Suzuki, the Chicago Cubs’ right fielder, is coming off his second solid season at the plate. The Japanese-born outfielder finished in the top ten of the National League in batting average (.283), slugging percentage (.482), OPS (.848), and triples (6).

The Cubs have traded for right fielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros. The new addition could limit Suzuki’s time in the outfield next season. Suzuki will most likely serve as Chicago’s designated hitter.

“While Suzuki hit slightly better as a DH than as an outfielder in a similar number of plate appearances last season, the Cubs acknowledge he might not want to serve in that role full-time,” according to Rosenthal. “The mere possibility, according to a source briefed on Suzuki’s thinking, makes him more inclined to approve a trade.”

The Dodgers currently have an open outfield space, which makes Suzuki a viable trade target for Los Angeles.

Luis Robert Jr., the center fielder for the Chicago White Sox, is the second prospective trade target. He was absent for two months in the first half of the season due to a hip flexor injury, and when he returned, he struggled to hit to his full capacity, posting the worst slash line of his MLB career.

However, in 2023, Robert Jr. demonstrated his hitting ability. He was selected an American League All-Star and Silver Slugger for his career-high 38 home runs and 80 RBIs.

The White Sox allegedly have minimal expectations for what they will get in exchange for Robert Jr. However, according to Rosenthal, Chicago wants a “meaningful piece” for the Gold Glove outfielder. After Hernández and fellow free agency outfielder Anthony Santander sign contracts, Robert Jr.’s market could improve.
