ESPN’s Molly McGrath was in South Bend on Wednesday to meet with Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman. The No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish are just days away from their greatest game of the season, when they face the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes in the national championship game on Monday. McGrath made her feelings about Freeman abundantly plain, stating that the coach is “truly one of the kindest, easiest people to work with.”
On Thursday, the experienced sportscaster discovered some Notre Dame news ahead of their championship game versus Ohio State. According to ESPN BET, the Fighting Irish will face the Buckeyes as -8.0 underdogs on Monday. The piece also stated that a victory for Notre Dame “would be the first time since 2010 that they have finished a season 3-0 or better as underdogs.”
McGrath issued a forceful statement on the announcement. “Just how they want it,” she captioned her Instagram Stories.
The Fighting Irish will need to perform at their peak on Monday if they are to defy the odds. The Buckeyes are favorites for a reason, and they will ensure that they win this highly anticipated matchup. As McGrath pointed out, Notre Dame does not mind being the underdog in this situation. In fact, they may even cherish it.
