Wolves advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating Brentford 3-2 at Molineux in the third round replay.

Gary O’Neil’s side is currently five games unbeaten in all competitions, with four victories.

After falling behind twice in the game, Wolves won tonight thanks to a fantastic Matheus Cunha penalty in extra time.

Nathan Collins gave Brentford the lead, but Nelson Semedo equalized soon after, and Neal Maupay added a second for the visitors.

But O’Neil believed in the promising young Nathan Fraser, and he repaid that faith with a goal shortly after his appearance in the second half, with Cunha assisting.

Gary O’Neil provides a striker search update following Brentford’s win, naming two further Wolves options.

Cunha operated more from the left tonight, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde played through the middle.

The Frenchman is primarily an attacking midfielder, but we’ve seen him come into the box to make things happen this season, and O’Neil seems confident he could do the job tonight.

Fraser was substituted in the second half, and the youngster performed admirably.

It has been widely rumored that Wolves are looking for a new striker this month, and O’Neil provided an update on the hunt following tonight’s game. However, he also stated that he views Bellegarde and Fraser as two options for playing up front.

Journalist Nathan Judah posted on X: “We’re looking for a number nine, but they have to be skilled enough to join this team. I’m convinced we’ll get one done, but Bellegarde, along with Nathan Fraser, now understands the 9 role.

Positive remarks

So O’Neil is ‘sure’ that Wolves will sign a new striker this month, which could mean something is already in the works.

At the moment, he is doing miracles with the options he has, so it’s intriguing to imagine what he may do if he truly gets his preferred striker.

Hugo Ekitike has been linked with a loan move from Paris Saint Germain.
