Just days after losing Super Bowl 59 to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 on Sunday in New Orleans, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes endured another personal loss. Randi, Mahomes’ mother, posted on social media on Friday that her father, Mahomes’ grandfather Randy, had died.
“Hard to find the words of holding my father’s hand as he goes to Heaven,” Randi once wrote. “I know he is in a better place. I adore you, Daddy. Well done, good and loyal servant! Matthew 25:23. Randy was admitted to hospice care just before Kansas City’s AFC Championship Game victory against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes’ mother said he was hoping to be able to see the two-time MVP play in his third consecutive Super Bowl.
Randi requested for prayers in September after writing that her father had been admitted to the hospital, but she did not explain why. He was freed shortly before Thanksgiving, but his health appears to have taken a turn after the New Year. Many fans flocked to social media to express their condolences and best wishes to the Mahomes family, including Tavia Hunt, the wife of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.
“I’m very sorry for your loss,” Tavia wrote on Randi’s Instagram post. “My heart goes out to you at this terrible time. I pray that you sense God’s calming presence and that He gives you peace and strength in the days ahead. May His love surround you, and may the precious memories you adore bring you consolation. Mahomes has not made any public social media posts since the news broke on Friday afternoon.
