The Chicago Cubs began their second week of spring training by adding 16-year-old veteran infielder Justin Turner. Chicago needed to add another third baseman after missing out on Houston Astros star Alex Bregman, who joined with the Boston Red Sox last week. Alcantara, 22, was signed by the New York Yankees from the Dominican Republic in 2018 and was dealt to the Cubs as part of the Anthony Rizzo deal in 2021. MLB.com ranks Alcantara as the game’s 90th-best prospect, but the young outfielder believes he’s more than simply an average talent.
Alcantara told Bruce Levine on 670the score that he hopes to be a Hall of Fame player. “I see myself that way. My father advised me to “project great things while working toward your goals.”
Last season, Alcantara participated in three major league games for Chicago, batting.100 with one hit in ten at-bats. Alcantara has a long way to go before he can be considered one of Cooperstown’s next greats. Hopefully, he will get more MLB action this season.
