Auburn University confirmed Friday that its head football coach, Hugh Freeze, has an early type of prostate cancer.

According to a statement made on the Auburn football X (previously Twitter) account, Freeze is anticipated to fully recover “with forthcoming and proper treatment.” According to the statement, he will continue to fulfill his normal coaching tasks and responsibilities.

After Freeze’s illness was made public, many people expressed their support for him on social media, including former Auburn football coach and current Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville.

The announcement also garnered a post from the Auburn AUTLive account about X, an Auburn men’s basketball program that raises cancer prevention and detection awareness, which is financed by the Bruce Pearl Family Foundation.

Auburn men’s basketball hosts an annual AUTLive game, and this season’s matchup against Tennessee featured free prostate cancer tests on the concourse of Neville Arena.

“We are praying for Coach Freeze and his family. “We have no doubt that he will win this fight and AUTLive cancer,” the message stated. “Remember, early detection can save lives!”

Many additional Auburn fans, recruiters, and national media people also sent their best wishes for X.
