When Major League Baseball inaugurated its spring prospect showcase last spring, it was a huge success. The 2025 Spring Breakout series is expected to be much better, particularly for the Detroit Tigers. On Sunday, March 16, teams of Tigers prospects will face off against the Atlanta Braves at 4:05 p.m. ET.

The Tigers’ roster will include five prospects ranked in the top 100 by MLB Pipeline. Shortstop Kevin McGonigle and center fielder Max Clark will lead the way. The Tigers’ explosive combination of slugging catchers will also be present. Thayron Liranzo has made a big impact in major league camp, while Josue Briceño is in minor league camp this spring.

The most intriguing addition will be 2024 first-round choice SS Bryce Rainer. Rainer briefly played in the backfield after the draft, but this will be his first appearance with the Tigers. The Tigers’ willingness to put him on the field in this game appears to be a positive indicator for his improvement since selection day.

The Braves’ farm system is struggling, hence they do not have a top 100 prospect in the game. In any case, it’s always exciting to see the best young talent compete, so this should be a fascinating clash. The Tigers appear to have a significant lead here, but anything can happen in one game, and pitching will most likely be the deciding factor.

Other prominent Tigers position players include INF Hao-Yu Lee, C Enrique Jimenez, INF Franyerber Montilla, 2B Max Anderson, 3B Carson Rucker, who hasn’t played since a season-ending shoulder injury early last year, and OF Roberto Campos. All of these are on our BYB top 41 prospect list for the Tigers this season.

The Tigers’ pitching staff will be led by RHP Jaden Hamm and RHP Troy Melton. The most prominent pitchers scheduled to participate are RHP Joseph Montalvo, RHP Michael Massey, who will make his professional debut, and RHP Tyler Owens.
