Bayern Munich has been linked with a deal for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier during this month’s transfer window.
According to Chronicle Live this morning, the German champions are interested in signing the England international as a new right-back.
Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel stated this week: “We are looking for a right-back who is strong in duels.” We’ll see if anything is doable.
“Nous Mazraoui is in the Africa Cup of Nations, but we have become accustomed to Konrad Laimer playing right-back, even if it is not his strongest position. If there is an opportunity on the market, we will seize it. Otherwise, things will remain this way.
Trippier’s former Tottenham and current England teammates, Harry Kane and Eric Dier, have already joined the Bavarian club, and Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has acknowledged that the Magpies will have to sell to purchase in the transfer market.
Nonetheless, Trippier, who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2025, is a critical element of Newcastle’s team, and manager Eddie Howe would not be interested in a mid-season trade.
Why Kieran Trippier left Madrid for Newcastle.
Tellingly, while describing why he left Atletico Madrid for Newcastle in January 2022, the player himself intimated that a move to Munich would not make sense.
“I have no regrets about any decision I make. “This was the best decision for me,” Trippier told the High Performance podcast.
Trippier explains why he left Madrid from 1:19:00 onward.
“When I first signed, I got a lot of remarks saying I came for money or anything. People don’t know that I came here for less money than when I was at Atletico Madrid. I might have signed a new three-year contract in Madrid.
“I had to return to England for my family and children. We were going through a horrible time. I’ve got my reasons for returning.
“I wanted to come back up north, and there was Newcastle. I had a wonderful conversation with the manager, and I thought, why not? I was aware they were 19th in the league, but I have no regrets, even if I could have played in the Championship.
