The Cleveland Guardians have an exceptional bullpen, which is well-known throughout the league.
Many experts and specialists in the field think it’s the greatest in MLB, and the statistics appear to back up that assertion.
When your bullpen has a 2.57 ERA over a complete 162-game season and the next-best is 3.11, there isn’t much room for debate.
Bruce Drennan, a Cleveland sports celebrity, believes that the Guardians’ bullpen is unparalleled in baseball.
In fact, he is prepared to make a daring claim.
“Do the Guardians have the best bullpen in the major leagues?” Just get the game to the fifth or sixth inning, and I think we’ll be good!” The Bruce Drennan Show uploaded a clip of his analysis to X.
The Guards’ bullpen was already fantastic in 2024, but it may get even better this time around.
The unit’s elite foursome will return: Emmanuel Clase, Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, and Tim Herrin.
But there’s more.
Andrew Walters returned to spring training on Saturday and should be a valuable addition moving forward.
Erik Sabrowski is now on the shelf, but Kolby Allard and Logan Allen are both performing well and might be added to the bullpen as excellent lefties.
Southpaw Doug Nikhazy is also available by phone.
Nic Enright and Franco Aleman may also join the group in the coming weeks after recovering from sports hernia surgery.
These are all quite talented arms, and more could be added depending on how the rotation plans work out.
For example, Triston McKenzie, Ben Lively (or Allen) may play the long man.
Drennan also discusses a new bullpen addition in 2025: Paul Sewald.
The righty has a lot of setup and closing experience and could be a good fit for Cleveland.
The unit has enough depth and quality to, as Drennan suggests, shut the door after the fifth or sixth inning.
The starters and the offense will have to do their job, though.
