The future of Duke’s basketball program took a minor turn for the worst late Thursday night.
The Blue Devils found out that Shelton Henderson, a five-star forward, will be going after another opportunity.
According to 247, Henderson and the school agreed to split ways at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Early in November, Henderson agreed to play for Jon Scheyer.
Instead, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound tank of a professional athlete will be searching for another school.
Henderson is regarded as the No. 4 shooting guard in the country and the No. 2 recruit in Texas by 247Sports. According to that service, he is ranked 21st in the nation overall.
Although Henderson’s early dedication to Duke helped him develop a small Blue Devils fan base, it ultimately wasn’t enough to keep him around.
Naturally, Duke is expecting for far more significant news this week than this. Cooper Flagg may decide to enter the NBA Draft.
If Flagg departs as anticipated, Henderson’s chances of playing against Duke will only get worse.

All that was evident from Thursday night into Friday, however, was that Henderson wasn’t prepared to commit and probably wouldn’t be going back out for a few more minutes.
