The 22-year-old has thrived for Sean Dyche’s team this season, despite the Toffees’ 10-point deduction throwing them into a relegation race. Onana has beginning to show the form that convinced Everton to sign the midfielder for £33 million from Lille in 2022.
Arsenal are mulling a bid for the midfielder, but Everton’s £50 million asking price is apparently a big stumbling block to reaching an agreement this month. The Gunners could be dealt another blow, with reports claiming that Newcastle is putting together a plot to outbid Arsenal for Onana’s signature.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are ‘prepared’ to pay Everton’s £50 million value, but only during the summer transfer window. As a result. The club is reportedly considering a loan deal, in which Everton would receive an initial fee and the remainder of the money at the conclusion of the season.
According to the report, Newcastle might use their summer transfer cash early if Everton can sell for the ‘appropriate amount’. This comes after Newcastle midfielder Joelinton was ruled out for the rest of the season, while Everton was just charged with another alleged infraction of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability guidelines.
Arsenal will hope that Joelinton’s injury does not prompt Newcastle to move on their interest this month. Meanwhile, it appears like Onana is enjoying his season with Everton and has recently spoken out about his admiration for the club’s fans.
Speaking about his relationship with Everton fans earlier this month, Onana said: “It’s incredibly special because I can sense their affection for us. I can’t exactly describe it, but after I scored at Burnley, they immediately started singing my name. Similarly, when we make big tackles, it gives me chills.
