The Duke Blue Devils, led by Jon Scheyer, suffered a crushing defeat in the NCAA Tournament to end the college basketball season.
The Blue Devils failed to win even though they had what is likely the strongest squad in collegiate basketball, led by Tyrese Proctor, Kon Knueppel, and Cooper Flagg.
After defeating Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, and Mount Saint Mary’s, Duke lost to Houston in the Final Four.
Duke suffered yet another setback following the heartbreaking defeat in the Final Four.
After three years with the ACC program, Proctor declared his intention to enter the NBA Draft.
When the news broke, Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer wrote to Proctor to express his admiration for the NBA Draft possibility.
“Working with Tyrese Proctor has been an amazing experience,” Scheyer remarked. “It goes beyond what he did this past season, Tyrese. It’s about his journey over the past three seasons, in my opinion. to observe the personal development he has undergone while attending Duke. To view the quantity of victories… Tyrese has done so much this season, and I am very proud of him. I am also really thrilled for him to take this next step. He should now pursue his NBA dream.
Proctor made a name for himself as one of the ACC’s top two-way players. With an average of 12.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, he concluded his third season with the program.
Now, Scheyer and his team will try to find somebody to replace some of his most important contributors. Proctor, Duke’s vocal leader throughout the season, and Kon Knueppel, who declared for the NBA Draft following his freshman year, will be leaving him.

Cooper Flagg is regarded as the consensus No. 1 overall pick and is anticipated to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft.
