In college basketball, it feels like a surprise move occurs nearly every day. Since the Florida Gators defeated the Houston Cougars in the NCAA Tournament championship game, that pattern has persisted.
Ever since, there has been a constant flow of news from the transfer portal. Players are switching from one squad to another every day. According to the most recent information, a player from a prominent Big 12 program has joined their roster.
A loss for one of the Final Four teams from the previous season is a win for this Big 12 team. A former star player for the Auburn Tigers is going west to play in 2025–2026.
On Friday, Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported: “NEWS: Auburn transfer wing Jahki Howard has committed to Utah, he tells @On3sports.”
Despite being heavily sought after on the transfer portal, Howard, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, finally decided to join the Utes.
As a four-star prospect, he had previously committed to Auburn. According to 247Sports Composite, he was regarded as the nation’s No. 64 overall player and the 19th best small forward.

The Utes’ first season under head coach Alex Jensen is about to begin. Before retiring in 2007, Jensen, a former Utah player, played professionally abroad for a long time. After playing, he became an assistant coach at Saint Louis University under Rick Majerus.
Jensen helped the Dallas Mavericks win the Western Conference Finals as an assistant coach the previous season.
