Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins’ pursuit of the record for the most receiving yards in a single season was a major theme throughout the NFL’s regular season.
Calvin Johnson, a former Detroit Lions great, holds the record, having accumulated 1,964 yards in 2012.
Hill fell short, finishing with only 1,799 yards, thanks in part to an ankle ailment he suffered late in the season.
That injury forced him to miss a game and be less than 100 percent when he returned, but he still played in 16 games after the NFL expanded its regular season schedule by one game a few years ago.
Johnson told Jim Rome that he dislikes the idea that players like Hill now have an extra game to smash records like his single-season receiving yards total.

“100 percent,” Johnson replied. “That’s how the record should be. “It should say 16 games or whatever.”
Johnson was once regarded as one of the best and most physically gifted wide receivers in NFL history.
Nicknamed “Megatron” for this reason, he topped 1,600 yards in a season twice and came close to 1,500 yards in 2013.
Hill is a living legend thanks to his speed, which gave him the nickname “Cheetah,” and after being traded to the Dolphins prior to last season, he has taken his game to another level.
Miami experienced a disappointing season that resulted in a difficult wild-card playoff round defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, but the immediate future seems promising.
