On April 23, the St. Louis Cardinals lost 4-1 to the Atlanta Braves, but one member of the squad went on to make history. According to reporter Derrick Goold, Lars Nootbaar has been the Cardinals’ leadoff walk king this season and established a record that hasn’t been surpassed in fifty years.
“With his leadoff walk today, Lars Nootbaar has tied … wait for it … an MLB record previously established 50 years ago. Nootbaar has matched Davy Lopes’ record for the most leadoff BB in the first month with eight leadoff walks in the Cardinals’ first 25 games. Goold stated on X, previously Twitter, “Nootbaar has six more games to own the record.”
This season, Nootbaar has been hitting the ball brilliantly, which has allowed him to create history. Nootbaar gave hitting instructor Brant Brown credit for his recent success at the plate just a few days ago.
According to MLB.com, Nootbaar stated, “[Brant Brown] has done a good job of honing in and nipping things in the bud right when he sees them and then it doesn’t go into a downward spiral.” “He comes in with a good approach and has good plans.”
Oliver Marmol, the manager, also discussed his thoughts on the team’s offensive performance thus far this season.
Marmol stated, “That’s all we can control. We’re playing good ball, the guys are doing it really well, and I really like our process.” You like to take advantage of us here at home, of course, but I enjoy the way we’re handling it.

“We just kept grinding out at bats until we got the big hit after facing a terrific arm [in Hunter Brown] on Tuesday and another one tonight. We continue to play solid baseball.”
The Cardinals are now 10-15 in the NL Central, despite the fact that they have been playing well offensively this season.
